the Toskala deal

I am pretty pleased tht the Leafs went out and got goaltender Vesa Toskala today from the Sharks, who we all hope will either send Raycroft packing or at very least relegate him to the status of backup. Toskala is thought to be the best goaltender on the trade block in this offseason and he had a great year sharing duties with Nabakhov in San Jose, going 26-10-1 with a 2.35 GAA and .908 save percentage. Some would argue that the Leafs should not have given up the two draft picks, but they have some great young talent waiting in the wings and some up-and-coming young players on the team, including Kyle Wellwood, Matt Stajan, and Alex Steen. Raycroft did not get the job done last year for the Buds and I am going to (grudgingly) applaud JFJ for making what I believe to be a sound deal, also acquiring left rugged winger Mark Bell in deal. He should add size and strength up front and he is still young at 27 years old. It will be interesting to see what else will happen, with Sundin and Cola signed up, and now this. I predict an interesting off-season for the Leafs...

"Teams in the Northwest Division don't play teams in the Northeast Division at all next season, meaning the Leafs, Habs and Sens won't be appearing in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, and vice versa." Sportsnet News

You must be thrilled that the 'Nucks won't be around to thrash your beloved Buds this year, eh buddy?
