Well, the Toronto Maple Leafs are nothing if not completely devoid of reason. A team that was absolutely tanking for much of the season, not even really within sneezing distance of the playoffs (much to my joy--the slide for Stamkos!), has decided to go 7-2-1 in their last 10 games; this includes last night's 8-2 thrashing of the Boston Bruins with the recently-hapless Tim Thomas in net. Once again the Buds' faithful (read: mostly delusional) fans, of which I am obviously a hard-core, are getting whipped up into playoff frenzy as the team once again goes on its yearly late-season tear in a desperate effort to make the post-season. That 37 year old Swedish magician captain of ours is up to his old tricks again, registering 11 points in the last five games--seriously, how does he do it? If the Canucks' Swedish captain played like that, they would be tearing up the Western Conference--too bad...
I am conflicted because though it would be great to see my team in some playoff games, I still believe that this team needs to be demolished as much as possible and built from the ground up. And we need a GM who is not afraid to make the big, unpopular decisions necessary (free of Peddie's meddling) to take the team in a forward direction. I can really only just sit and see how the final 13 games play out, but I still think that the Leafs making the playoffs will legitimize how things are being run right now and that is the worst thing that could happen to this organization. This machine is BROKEN and needs to be fixed.
Final Bingleafs verdict: let the Slide for Stamkos begin...
