Touching on Phil Kessel... it...Hmm... interesting.

Touching on Phil Kessel... it really looks like Burke is gambling on Nazeem kadri and Co playing in the system to step up next year (or the year after that.) The Kessel deal will look brilliant if those kids can step into a big league role and support Hagman, Kessel, Schenn and Gustavsson. Because then you will ahev an elite scorer, a solid D anchor, a fantastic goalie (give him a season) and a cast of young kids willniog to step in.

Role players, you can find to fill grinder and energy roles via free agency (or trading the underacheiving cast you already have)

The problem, is veteran leadership. And you hit it on the head. Blake is a gerat leader. When he's there. Unfortunately this season the man has been (like you said) invisible. This is where Mats Sundin was the glue that kept your team together. He was an amazing leader in that capacity.

But time will tell. Burke isn't overly patient. He'll generally take two drafts to build a team (draft the players, then build around it. unless you're in Anaheim's case where Getzlaf and Perry are already drafted and you bring int he veterans.) he's drafted Kadri, unfortunately he doesn't have another draft (because of Kessel.) So he knows he needs to build around this.

We'll see! Just my two cents.DPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14166594143965959447noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38835464.post-51304800844244769492009-11-30T12:00:44.071-08:002009-11-30T12:00:44.071-08:00Looking at the standings, although the Leafs are s...Looking at the standings, although the Leafs are second to last, they are also only a dozen points out of first in their division. Those OT points have definitely helped them out. Although it is slim that they'll climb out, there's definitely still reason to hope. Boston's 1st in the division right now, but after 2 games could be 4th... things happen fast sometimes.AJ Rentonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16677808082675681852noreply@blogger.com
